Why
a Website?
The Internet is a great tool for keeping your members, employees, and customers
updated. What better way to contact people than through a website? Do your
work/team schedules change weekly? Simply update a web page to reflect the
current schedules. Would you like people to be able to fill out a survey, request
for information, or membership list quickly and easily? Put it on the Internet!
Let us help you make your job easier. Reduce the number of newsletters you
must produce - just update your website instead!
Why
Secure Computer Networks?
You've probably seen the web hosting advertisements that offer massive amounts
of data storage for $9.95 per month. Caveat emptor! You get what you pay for.
Data storage is cheap and easy to supply, however it is much more difficult
to provide customers with quality service, web design, and hosting.
Most of the free or cheap hosting services do not include a custom website
development and monthly updates. For service like this, you must be prepared
to pay a minimum of $40 per month. We enjoy what we do and have over 10 years
experience doing it. By paying for services, you assure that your site remains
available; that the server is maintained and upgraded when necessary.
What
should you get for your money?
Data
Storage
In order to have your web files served to the world, you need to have a generous
amount of disk space on a server where you can upload your pages, images, sound
clips, etc and store them. One Blue Secure Computer Networks allows you to manage your
site using custom management pages or via ftp.
Bandwidth
(Data Transfer)
Bandwidth is the amount of data transmitted or received through a unit of time.
In web hosting, bandwidth is consumed when visitors make requests for files
on your website and download them to their personal computers. When you add
up the total of all files downloaded off of your site in a particular month,
your total should be lower than the amount allotted with your hosting plan.
If it is not, your file sizes may be too large or you may be generating a lot
of hits - in which case you may need to upgrade to a larger hosting plan or
to a dedicated hosting server.
Your
Own Domain Name
A true virtual domain name (www.mycompany.com) gives your site instant credibility.
New customers have a good impression, returning visitors do not have to remember
where your site is hosted in order to reach you. It's like having a direct
phone number rather than an extension.
Domain
Management
Managing your domain can be a complex task. Secure Computer Networks offers world-class
service by taking care of this headache for you. We insert the information
necessary for your domain to be reached by anyone on the Internet (A, CNAME,
MX records) to both Primary and Secondary Domain Name Servers that are in direct
contact with the main Internet database held by Internic.
POP3
Email Accounts
You can send and receive mail via the Internet or your local computer using
a mail program like Microsoft Outlook. Email Aliases, Forwarding, and Autoresponders
Email aliases and forwarding allow you to set up names@yourdomain.com that
forward to a POP3 email account that you already have. So, if you already have
a main email address, you can set everything up so when someone sends a message
to you@yourdomain.com email address, it automatically is forwarded to the email
address you are currently using. Autoresponders are also a great feature with
hosting accounts. You can type a standard message (like "Thank you for
contacting us. We will respond to your email within 24 hours") to be sent
to anyone that emails you@yourdomain.com.
Security
It takes many layers of Internet security, from password protections to firewall
barriers, to prevent determined hackers from wreaking havoc with your web
data. Many hosting companies offer some assurance that their network and
software are protected from unwanted intrusions such as spamming and hijacking.
Make sure the hosting company you choose has enough security measures in
place to ensure that your data is completely protected.
Secure Computer Networks's servers are well protected, both physically and digitally.
Our advanced firewall system keeps intruders out of our network; our switches
are configured to prevent data snooping; and we monitor site security 24 hours
a day.
What
can a website do for me?
A website is a presentation tool used by many people for a variety of useful
tasks including:
- Providing
support to your clients by providing online chat support
or online documentation
- Providing press
releases about your company. The first place people usually
expect that information (especially shareholders) would
be from the company's website.
- Selling products
online to people around the world at any time of day. This
can help increase your name recognition, while at the same
time increasing sales with low overhead.
- Receiving feedback
and comments from your clients. The easiest way for people
to submit comments is through a website. No paper or postage
is necessary.
- The Internet
is a great educational tool, allowing students to retrieve
the latest information on their subjects of study. Students
can work at their own pace and attend classes at any time
with ease.
